Cytology Interpretation

What is Cytology?

Cytology is the study of single cells that typically come from fluids or brushings.  Cytology forms part of the tests which can be used to diagnose infection, cancer, autoimmune diseases and more.

Most people may not be familiar with the word cytology, however you would like have heard of a pap smear - which is cytology of the cervix and is used to screen for pre-cancerous lesions and cervical cancers.

In contrast to surgical pathology, cytology reports uses more specialised diagnostic criteria. For example, you might see terms such as "insufficient", "normal", "atypical", "suspicious", or "positive" on your results for "malignancy".

I can help you understand the difference between those categories, or any other terms on your results and explain to you what the real impact is to your health.
